The Niers valley
The Niers moves slowly through flat ground, and its meanders and side channels form the most organic line on an otherwise orderly map of fields and straight rural lanes.

Grefrath Map Poster & Print
Grefrath sits in the flat country of the Lower Rhine, in the Viersen district of North Rhine-Westphalia, a short distance from the Dutch border. From above, the land is a patchwork of fields cut by straight farm roads, with the built-up areas gathering into compact clusters rather than one continuous town. The Niers river winds through this landscape, and its slow bends give the map its one strong curving line.
The municipality brings together several villages, including Oedt, so the street plan reads as a set of small centres joined by country roads. Each has its own knot of older streets around a church, surrounded by later housing laid out in loops and cul-de-sacs. Between them, the lines thin out into open ground, and a Grefrath map poster shows that rhythm of dense and empty space very clearly.
Grefrath is known regionally for its open-air museum of Lower Rhine rural life, set around a historic moated house, and for an ice sports centre that has drawn skaters for decades. On a map these appear as quiet parcels at the edge of the village fabric, but they explain why the name is familiar well beyond the district.

Villages in a row
Grefrath and Oedt read as separate street clusters linked by country roads, giving the poster several small centres instead of a single dense core.
Field geometry
Around the settlements, long rectangular plots and drainage lines typical of the Lower Rhine create a fine, regular texture that fills the edges of the frame.

Waarom Grefrath
Een kaart met betekenis
For people who grew up between these villages, the map captures something a photograph rarely does: the distances between places, the familiar road to the next village, the river that was always just beyond the last houses. It suits a hallway or a study, where it can be read slowly.
You can set your own title and subtitle, adjust the coordinates line, and add a date that matters to you. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to match the room, then download the HD files or order a printed poster.
