Gushu Map Poster & Print
Gushu is the seat of Dangtu County in Anhui's Ma'anshan, on low, well-watered land east of the Yangtze. The countryside around it is a patchwork of fields, fishponds, lakes and canals, and the map reflects that: the town's blocks sit among water channels, with roads running along embankments and bridges crossing at regular intervals.
Dangtu County is linked to the Tang poet Li Bai, who spent his last years in the area and is commemorated at a memorial tomb in the county. Today the town is part of the wider Nanjing and Ma'anshan region, with newer districts spreading out beside the older centre.
A Gushu map poster shows a place built around water as much as land. The waterways cutting through and around the town, the older streets near the centre and the straighter avenues of newer districts all come through clearly, with the surrounding fields and ponds adding a fine texture.
