Oasis edge
The line where irrigated fields give way to desert is one of the strongest features on the map, a boundary that shows exactly how far the water reaches.

Han’airike Map Poster & Print
Han’airike lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, where meltwater from the Kunlun Mountains feeds a band of farmland along the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. On a map it looks like a patch of cultivation: rows of fields, tree-lined lanes and canals packed closely, with empty land never far away on either side.
The streets don't radiate from one grand centre. They follow irrigation channels and field boundaries, so the town blends into the farmland around it. Main roads run in long straight lines toward neighbouring oasis towns. From above, the pattern reads more like a woven textile than a planned city, dense in the middle and thinning as the water runs out.
A Han’airike map poster keeps that contrast between worked land and open ground. In black and white, the lanes and field edges become a fine mesh of lines, and the blank desert margins give the composition room to breathe. It is a quiet portrait of a place shaped almost entirely by water and the patient work of farming.

Irrigation lanes
Narrow channels and the roads beside them run in parallel strips, giving the whole area a combed, linear texture that looks striking in fine print.
Long approach roads
Straight roads cross the plain to link Han’airike with nearby oasis towns, clean lines that cut across the finer grid of fields.

Waarom Han’airike
Een kaart met betekenis
For people with roots in the Hotan oasis, this map is a record of home drawn in the language of lanes and fields. For others it is simply a beautiful abstract, the geometry of farming at the edge of a desert.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a family name or a date, and a coordinates line. Then pick one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, which suits the desert setting especially well.
