Old town lanes
The central area is a close web of narrow, irregular streets that appears almost solid on the map, in clear contrast with the more open districts around it.

Hāthras Map Poster & Print
Hāthras lies in western Uttar Pradesh, on the flat plain between the Ganges and the Yamuna, within easy reach of Aligarh, Agra and Mathura. The map shows a dense core of narrow lanes and closely packed blocks, surrounded by newer neighbourhoods with slightly wider streets. Railway lines cross the area and meet near the town, giving it clear straight edges against the irregular streets of the older quarters.
The town is best known for processing asafoetida, or hing, and has been a centre of that trade for generations. It is also linked with the popular Hindi satirical poet Kaka Hathrasi, who took the town's name as part of his pen name. Around the town, farmland stretches out in every direction, typical of the Doab plain.
A Hāthras map poster shows the texture of an old North Indian market town: tight lanes in the centre, main roads leading out to neighbouring cities, and the straight lines of the railway. In black and white, the density of the core becomes a pattern of its own, set against open fields.

Railway lines
Straight tracks cross the flat plain and meet near the town, giving the composition firm lines that cut through the organic street pattern.
Doab farmland
Around the built-up area, open agricultural land fills the frame, so the town appears as a dense island on the plain between two great rivers.
