De kaart
Hazorasp Map Poster & Print
Hazorasp lies in the Xorazm Region of western Uzbekistan, on the left-bank plain of the Amu Darya, one of the oldest irrigated landscapes in Central Asia. The town grew around an ancient fortress, and its map shows a compact centre surrounded by a pattern of canals, fields and farm settlements extending in every direction across the flat oasis.
The mud-brick walls of the Hazorasp fortress are among the notable monuments of the Khorezm oasis and still define part of the town's layout. The name is usually interpreted as 'a thousand horses'. Beyond the walls, canals carry water from the Amu Darya to the cotton fields and orchards around the town, drawing long straight and gently curving lines.
A Hazorasp map poster balances history and hydraulics: the outline of the old walled town, the newer streets outside it, and the fine web of irrigation that makes life possible in this dry region. The Amu Darya itself flows close by, a reminder of the river on which the whole oasis depends.
