Valley town core
The densest part of the map is a tight cluster of short streets on the flattest available ground, a pattern shared by many hill towns across Chongqing, where level space is used carefully.

Houshan Map Poster & Print
Houshan sits in the hill country of eastern Chongqing, a municipality where flat ground is the exception. On a map the town reads as a compact cluster of blocks pressed onto the valley floor, with roads that cannot run straight for long before a slope turns them. Around the built edge, the linework thins into lanes that follow the contours and scattered farm settlements.
The terrain gives the area its character from above. The ridges of the eastern Sichuan Basin run in long parallel folds, and settlements tend to follow the valleys between them. Streams, terraced fields and winding roads all respond to the same underlying shape, so even a plain black-and-white rendering hints at the relief without drawing a single contour line.
A Houshan map poster captures that relationship between a small town and difficult ground. Places like this rarely appear on printed maps at all, which makes a carefully drawn sheet of its streets more personal. For people with family roots here, it records a specific valley rather than the broad outline of a province.

Winding approach roads
Roads leading in and out curve with the slopes rather than cutting across them. They make long looping lines that give the outer parts of the poster a loose, hand-drawn rhythm.
Ridge-and-valley setting
Eastern Chongqing is shaped by parallel ridges and the valleys between them. The street pattern quietly traces that geology, with settlement and farmland keeping to the lower ground.

Waarom Houshan
Een kaart met betekenis
Hometown maps matter most for places that general atlases skip. A Houshan poster keeps the exact streets of a childhood or a family house on the wall, especially for people who have moved to Chongqing's city districts or further away.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, such as a family name and a year, and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The HD files cost $9 and include six print sizes, or you can order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
