The Yalu border
The river winds between Hyesan and Changbai in China. It is narrow enough that both banks share the frame, which makes the border unusually legible on paper.

Hyesan Map Poster & Print
Hyesan is the capital of Ryanggang Province in the far north of North Korea. It lies on the Yalu River, directly across from the Chinese town of Changbai. The terrain is steep and forested, so the city could not spread into a regular grid. It follows the valley floor and the lower slopes instead, and its road pattern bends with the contours of the land.
From above, the Yalu is the organizing element. It traces a narrow, winding course between two countries. Built-up areas line both banks, and the hills climb sharply behind them. The region leads up toward the Paektu highlands, which gives the surrounding map a rugged, uneven texture of ridgelines and side valleys.
A Hyesan map poster shows a place that few people have seen in person, drawn purely from its geography. The river and the valley roads are enough to convey the setting: a long settlement fitted into a crease in the mountains, with a national border running down the middle of the water.

Valley-shaped streets
Roads run lengthwise along the valley floor and branch into side ravines. The result is an elongated city outline set by the terrain, not by planning.
Highland surroundings
Steep hills close in on every side and rise toward the Paektu plateau. Beyond the thin ribbon of settlement, the map is left spare and open.

Waarom Hyesan
Een kaart met betekenis
This map suits readers of Korean history, collectors of unusual border towns, and anyone with a family connection to the northern provinces. It is a quiet way to hold a place on the wall that is otherwise difficult to reach.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Paper and Sand styles soften the steep terrain into something calm and readable.
