Imperial is a town in the Cañete province of the Lima region, in the lower valley of the Cañete River near San Vicente de Cañete. From above, it has a regular grid of streets and blocks with a central plaza, and its outer edges soften into irrigated fields, orchards and small rural roads across the flat valley floor.
The town serves as a local centre for the surrounding agricultural district, and roads connect it to nearby towns in the valley and toward the coast. Farming dominates the landscape, and the pattern of fields and canals around Imperial is one of the defining features of the map.
