São Francisco waterfront
The wide river runs along the town's edge. Its sandbanks and channels create a broad open area on the map that contrasts with the dense streets beside it.

Januária Map Poster & Print
Januária lies in the north of Minas Gerais on the left bank of the São Francisco, one of Brazil's great rivers. The town grew as a river port, and on a map it still faces the water. The older streets run parallel to the bank, while newer neighbourhoods spread inland across flat ground toward the dry country of the sertão.
The river is the dominant shape in the composition. It is wide here, with sandbanks and islands that shift from season to season, and the opposite bank is largely rural. Behind the town, straight roads lead out toward farms and the region's limestone uplands. The Peruaçu caves lie there, inside a national park shared with neighbouring municipalities.
Januária has long been known for its cachaça, and bottles carry the town's name across Brazil. A Januária map poster centres on the waterfront and the grid behind it. It is a simple, balanced image of a place that has always lived by the river's cycle of flood and low water.

Riverside grid
Older streets follow the line of the bank before opening into a regular grid inland, a layout that shows how the town grew outward from the port.
River islands
Islands and sandbars dot the São Francisco near the town. These small irregular shapes add detail to the water and remind you how much the river moves.
