Syngrou Avenue

Kallithéa Map Poster & Print
Kallithéa sits between central Athens and Piraeus, and from above it looks like one continuous block of city. Short, regular streets repeat in a tight mesh that barely changes from one neighbourhood to the next. The wide diagonal of Syngrou Avenue marks its eastern side, and the ground falls gently southward toward the coast at Faliro.
The name translates roughly as "beautiful view", a reminder of when the area was open land with sightlines to the sea and the Acropolis hills. Today it is one of the most densely built municipalities in Attica. It is also home to Harokopio University, and the old Athens–Piraeus railway, now metro Line 1, crosses it with its own station.
A Kallithéa map poster suits this kind of place because the drawing is almost pure texture. Hundreds of small blocks form an even grey field, broken only by a few longer avenues and the rail line. Rendered in black and white, the district becomes a study of how a Mediterranean city fills every available square metre.

Metro Line 1
The historic Athens–Piraeus line crosses the municipality on its way to the port, drawn as a steady thread cutting through the tightly packed residential blocks.
Toward Faliro Bay
To the south the grid opens out toward the flat coastal strip of Faliro, where the dense pattern gives way to wider roads and the shoreline of the Saronic Gulf.

Waarom Kallithéa
Een kaart met betekenis
People who grew up in Kallithéa, or who rented a first flat in one of its apartment blocks, know it street by street. A poster turns that familiar grid into something you can take in at a glance, which works well for anyone who has moved away from Athens.
Add a line of your own to the title, a subtitle such as a family surname, or a date that matters, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
