Ise Bay shoreline
The eastern edge of the map is the bay itself, a long, fairly even coastline that gives the composition a clean boundary of open water.

Kawage Map Poster & Print
Kawage is a former town on the western shore of Ise Bay in Mie Prefecture, merged into the city of Tsu in 2006. It covers part of the flat coastal plain between the bay and the Suzuka Mountains. From above it is a place of long, parallel elements: the shoreline, the railways and main roads running north to south, and the farmland between them.
Houses tend to gather along the transport lines and older roads, packed into narrow blocks and small lanes, while the areas in between open into the geometric patchwork of paddy fields. Short rivers draining from the hills cross the plain towards the bay. They cut the parallel bands at right angles and give the map a quiet grid of its own.
The Kawage map poster works best as a study in stripes and texture. The smooth edge of the water sits on one side, the fine grain of residential streets fills the middle, and the ruled lines of fields fade inland. It suits anyone with ties to this stretch of the Mie coast, a part of Japan that most maps pass over quickly.

North–south corridors
Railway lines and main roads run parallel to the coast, and much of the built area lines up along them in slim, elongated strips.
Paddy field patchwork
Between the settlements, rectangular fields and irrigation channels create a fine geometric texture that contrasts with the denser grain of the residential streets.

Waarom Kawage
Een kaart met betekenis
Merged towns tend to disappear from maps and signposts, even though people still call them home. A poster of Kawage keeps the old name visible, which makes it a meaningful gift for someone who grew up there or who has moved away from Mie.
The title line can read Kawage, Tsu or any wording you prefer, with a date and coordinates beneath. Choose among five styles, from Classic black & white to the warm tones of Sand. Download the HD files for $9, or order a matte print, framed if you like.
