Kigonsera Map Poster & Print
Kigonsera lies in the Ruvuma region of southern Tanzania, in the hilly country east of Lake Nyasa. The land here is high and rolling, cut by streams and valleys. Settlements tend to spread along ridges and roads instead of forming a tight urban core, so from above the community appears as a loose pattern of lanes and plots set among fields and woodland.
Agriculture shapes the landscape, with smallholdings and cultivated land filling the spaces between homesteads. The wider Ruvuma highlands are known for farming, including coffee in the Mbinga area, and unpaved roads link villages across the hills. On a map, those tracks and footpaths form a fine network that follows the contours of the land.
A Kigonsera map poster is less about dense streets than about how people have settled into a landscape: the branching roads, the scattered clusters of houses, and the valleys between the hills. In black and white, this open pattern has an understated elegance. It is a portrait of a rural place, not of a city.

Rural road network
Unpaved roads and tracks connect Kigonsera with surrounding villages. They are drawn as thin, winding lines that cross the hills in several directions.
Streams and valleys
Small watercourses run through the valleys between the ridges, and their natural curves contrast with the straighter lines of the roads.

Waarom Kigonsera
Een kaart met betekenis
Kigonsera means a great deal to people who grew up in the Ruvuma highlands, who studied or worked here, or who have family in southern Tanzania. A map gives them a lasting image of a place that is rarely seen in print, to hang at home or give to someone far away.
