Loukkos river bend
The river curves widely before entering the Atlantic just below the town. Its broad arc and the marshy land along it are the most striking shape on the map.

Larache Map Poster & Print
Larache sits on Morocco's Atlantic coast, on high ground where the Loukkos River bends into the sea. From above, the town looks out over two kinds of water. The ocean runs along one side and the wide, curving estuary along another. The compact old medina and the port sit close to the cliffs, and newer quarters spread inland in a more regular pattern.
The town has a layered past. Just across the river are the ruins of Lixus, an ancient settlement linked in legend to the Garden of the Hesperides. In the twentieth century Larache was part of the Spanish protectorate, which left it a circular central plaza and Spanish-style streets. The writer Jean Genet is buried in the town's old Spanish cemetery above the sea.
A Larache map poster gives equal weight to land and water. The Atlantic shoreline and the broad sweep of the Loukkos frame the town on two sides, and the dense lanes of the medina contrast with the rounded plaza and straight colonial streets. In monochrome, the river bend and coastline create one of the most elegant outlines of any Moroccan town.

Circular central plaza
A round plaza from the Spanish period sits at the junction of the old and new towns, and streets radiate from it. It is a small, perfect circle on the map.
Medina on the cliffs
The old medina's narrow, twisting lanes are packed close to the edge above the sea and port, forming the densest texture in the whole composition.

Waarom Larache
Een kaart met betekenis
Larache draws people back with its estuary light, its Spanish-era streets and the ruins across the river. A map of its coastline and medina is an elegant way to keep that place in view.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name or a summer year, and choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand recalls the warm Atlantic coast well.
