Mahuva lies near the southern coast of the Saurashtra peninsula, in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district. It is often called the Kashmir of Saurashtra for its unusual greenery. Coconut palms, mango orchards and gardens surround the town in a region that is otherwise mostly dry. On the map, that greenery shows as a softer, more irregular texture around the built-up core.
The town centre is a dense, organic tangle of lanes that grew over centuries. Newer roads lead out toward the villages, the farms and the coast. Mahuva is also known for its onion trade and a large onion-dehydration industry, which gives its outskirts a practical, agricultural character.
