Malacatán Map Poster & Print
Malacatán lies in the department of San Marcos in western Guatemala, close to the border with Mexico. It sits on the lower Pacific slope, where the highlands of the Sierra Madre drop toward the warm coastal plain. On a map, the town appears as a fairly regular block pattern in the middle of open agricultural land, with roads leading off toward the border and toward the rest of the department.
The surrounding landscape is shaped by water running downhill toward the Pacific, and streams and river corridors cross the countryside around the town. That gives the wider map a directional feel, with lines tending to follow the fall of the land from the mountains in the north toward the lowlands in the south. The town itself is a working trading centre for this border area.
A Malacatán map poster captures that contrast between the orderly town blocks and the looser pattern of rural roads and watercourses around them. Rendered in fine black lines, it has a quiet, almost diagrammatic quality. It is a good fit for anyone with family roots in the area or a connection to this corner of Guatemala near the Mexican frontier.

Roads toward the border
Routes leading west toward the Mexican border and east into San Marcos give the map its main axes and link the town to the wider region.
River corridors
Streams descending from the highlands toward the Pacific cut across the surrounding farmland, adding thin winding lines that contrast with the straight town streets.
