De kaart
Manhala Map Poster & Print
Manhala lies on the flat alluvial plain of Punjab, east of Lahore and close to the border with India. The land here is almost perfectly level, so the map is drawn entirely by human hands: a compact settlement of close-set lanes, a handful of roads leading out to neighbouring villages, and the long straight lines of field boundaries stretching toward the horizon.
Canal irrigation has shaped this part of Punjab for more than a century, and watercourses cut clean lines across the countryside around the town. Between them lie wheat and rice fields, orchards and village clusters, each with its own tight knot of houses. The result from above is an orderly rural landscape with the town as its busiest point.
A Manhala map poster suits people who carry the place with them after moving to Lahore, the Gulf, Britain or elsewhere. The dense core and the straight canals and roads around it make a strong, balanced composition, and in black and white the quiet regularity of the Punjab plain becomes the subject itself.

Canal lines
Irrigation channels run straight across the surrounding plain, drawing long, precise strokes that give the open countryside its distinctive, grid-like structure.
Village network
Narrow roads link Manhala to a ring of smaller villages, each appearing as its own small cluster, so the wider framing reads like a constellation.
