The Chira River
The river runs between Marcavelica and Sullana, forming a wide, flowing band that divides the map and gives it a clear centre line.

Marcavelica Map Poster & Print
Marcavelica lies in the Piura region of northern Peru, on the banks of the Chira River. Across the river stands the larger city of Sullana, and the two are linked by bridges, so on a map they read as two halves of one riverside settlement. Marcavelica's streets form a compact grid close to the water, with farmland spreading out behind it.
The Chira valley is one of the most important agricultural areas in the region. In an otherwise dry coastal landscape, irrigation channels carry river water across the fields, and the map shows a patchwork of cultivated plots cut by canals and farm tracks. The line between green valley and arid ground beyond is sharp and easy to see.
A Marcavelica map poster captures this riverside position: the town grid on one bank, the broad curve of the Chira in the middle and the larger street network of Sullana opposite. The river gives the composition a strong central axis, and the irrigated fields add a finer, textured pattern around the edges of the print.

Waarom Marcavelica
Een kaart met betekenis
Marcavelica suits anyone attached to life along the Chira: river crossings, market days and the fields that surround the town. The map places it within its valley and beside its neighbour, which is how people who live there think of it.
