Marmaris Map Poster & Print
Marmaris wraps around the head of a deep, almost enclosed bay on the southwest coast of Turkey. On a map the town follows the curve of the shoreline, with streets filling the narrow strip of flat land between the water and the steep, forested hills behind it. Islands and peninsulas close off the bay, giving the design a strong, protected shape.
The old town gathers around Marmaris Castle, a small fortress rebuilt in the sixteenth century during the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent. Today the harbour and large marina make Marmaris a centre for yacht sailing, and ferries cross to the Greek island of Rhodes, visible across the water from nearby headlands.
