Hei River mouth
The river runs through the middle of the city to the bay, dividing the streets and giving the map a clear central line from the hills to the coast.

Miyako Map Poster & Print
Miyako faces the Pacific on the Sanriku coast of Iwate, one of the most rugged coastlines in Japan. The map is shaped by water and rock: a sheltered bay, the mouth of the Hei River running through the centre, and narrow strips of flat land squeezed between the sea and steep, forested hills. The streets follow the river and the shore because there is little room anywhere else.
The coast here is dramatic. Jōdogahama, with its white rock spires, is one of the region's best-known views, and Cape Todogasaki nearby is the easternmost point of Honshu. Miyako was also badly hit by the 2011 tsunami, and the rebuilding since then has changed parts of the waterfront.
A Miyako map poster shows how closely this city is tied to the sea. The winding coastline, the river cutting through the centre and the dense streets of the lowland make a strong design, with open hills and ocean on either side. In black and white it reads as a portrait of a coastal city shaped by its geography.

Sanriku coastline
Inlets, headlands and small coves give the shoreline a jagged, detailed edge. At larger sizes such as 50×70 cm, that detail is one of the poster's strongest features.
Harbour and bay
The sheltered bay and its quays form the city's working waterfront. On the map, piers and breakwaters appear as sharp geometric lines against open water.
