Muswell Hill is a residential area in north London, in the borough of Haringey, on high ground between Highgate and Alexandra Palace. Most of it was built in a short period around the start of the twentieth century, so its streets have an unusually consistent Edwardian character. Terraces and parades of shops line the main roads, and the hill gives long views south over the city.
On a map, Muswell Hill has a clear centre: the Broadway and its busy roundabout, from which several main roads spread out in different directions. Residential avenues curve along the slopes between them. Green space lies all around. Alexandra Park rises to the east, and to the west and south are Highgate Wood, Queen's Wood and Coldfall Wood, remnants of old woodland that appear as dense, irregular blocks.
