Settlement core
The built-up area is small and loosely arranged, with streets and compounds gathered around the main routes rather than set out in a dense grid.

Mwene Map Poster & Print
Mwene lies in Lualaba province in the south of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a province created in 2015 when the former Katanga was divided. The area sits on a high plateau of savanna and open woodland, well to the west of the provincial capital, Kolwezi. On a map the settlement appears as a modest cluster of streets and plots within a wide, lightly built landscape.
The western part of Lualaba belongs to the historic homeland of the Lunda people, and its rivers generally flow north toward the Kasai basin. From above, the most visible lines are roads and tracks linking scattered villages, and the thin, winding threads of streams, often edged by strips of denser gallery forest.
Places like this rarely appear on printed maps, which is part of what makes a Mwene map poster meaningful. The image will be spare, with more open ground than streets, and that openness is its character: a small, precise record of one particular place, framed as carefully as any capital city.

Plateau tracks
Roads and tracks lead outward across the savanna toward neighbouring villages, drawing long, faint lines across an otherwise open map.
River valleys
Streams cut shallow valleys through the plateau as they head north toward the Kasai basin, adding soft curves to the landscape around the settlement.
