Noshiro Map Poster & Print
Noshiro sits on the coast of Akita Prefecture where the Yoneshiro River flows into the Sea of Japan. On the map, the river forms a wide curve along the edge of the city, and the harbour breakwaters stretch out into the sea. The city centre is laid out on the flat land between them.
For a long time Noshiro was known as a lumber town, handling Akita cedar floated down the river. Along the coast, a long band of black pines, the Kaze no Matsubara, was planted to protect the town from wind and sand. Noshiro is also famous in Japan for high-school basketball.
A Noshiro map poster shows a well-defined landscape: the sea, the river, the forest belt and the city. The long, smooth coastline and the wide bend of the Yoneshiro frame the regular streets of the centre.

Coastal pine belt
A long stretch of pine forest runs along the coast. It forms a band of open space between the city streets and the shore.
Harbour breakwaters
The port's breakwaters reach out into the Sea of Japan in straight lines. They contrast with the soft curves of the river and coast.
