Tapalqué stream
The stream crosses the city at an angle, lined with parkland. It is the only natural curve inside an otherwise strictly rectangular street plan.

Olavarría Map Poster & Print
Olavarría lies in the centre of Buenos Aires province, where the flat pampas meet the low hills of the Tandilia system. It was founded in 1867. The city follows the classic Argentine plan of square blocks laid out around a main plaza. From above, the grid runs evenly in every direction until it reaches farmland.
One line breaks the pattern. The Tapalqué stream winds through the city on a diagonal, and a green strip of parks follows its banks. Olavarría is widely known as the cement capital of Argentina. Limestone from the nearby hills has supplied the industry for generations. On a detailed map, the quarries appear as pale, irregular shapes just outside the urban area.
An Olavarría map poster shows the tension between these two layers. The strict grid is people's work, and the curving stream and scarred hills are the landscape underneath. In monochrome, the contrast is especially clear. It gives the print more structure than most flat-country towns, where the grid would otherwise run on without a break.

Pampas block grid
Square blocks spread out evenly from the central plaza. This regular texture is typical of the towns founded across the Buenos Aires province.
Quarry country
Outside town, limestone quarries linked to the cement industry show up as broad, irregular clearings. They set Olavarría apart from its farm-town neighbours.

Waarom Olavarría
Een kaart met betekenis
For people from Olavarría, the grid, the stream and the quarries are instantly familiar. For others, the print is a striking piece of graphic design. You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name, date or short dedication.
The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir makes the stream stand out like a vein of light. Sand matches the colour of the limestone that built the town's economy.
