The prairie grid
Streets run in a regular orthogonal pattern, and beyond the town the county roads continue the grid as mile-square sections across the level High Plains.

Pampa Map Poster & Print
Pampa lies in Gray County in the Texas Panhandle, on land so level that early settlers compared it to the grasslands of Argentina, which gave the town its name. On the map, the high plains are nearly featureless, and the town appears as a neat orthogonal grid set down on that open surface, with county roads marking out the square survey sections beyond.
A railway line crosses the town at an angle, and much of Pampa’s early layout grew along it. The discovery of oil and gas in the 1920s brought a boom, and traces of that industrial era, tank farms, pipelines and plant sites, still show at the edges of the street pattern. The folk singer Woody Guthrie lived here during the 1930s.
A Pampa map poster captures the geometry that defines Panhandle towns: straight streets, long blocks and a horizon of section lines. In black and white, the grid becomes almost graphic, with the diagonal rail corridor adding a single strong accent. It is a clean, restrained design that reflects the scale and openness of the plains.

Diagonal rail line
The railway cuts through the town at an angle to the street grid, a strong line that recalls how Pampa grew as a shipping point on the plains.
Oil-era edges
Industrial sites and service roads from the oil and gas era sit around the outskirts, adding irregular shapes to an otherwise orderly map.
