Abunã River border
The river runs along the edge of town and forms the frontier with Bolivia, a curving line that gives the map its strongest natural feature.

Plácido de Castro Map Poster & Print
Plácido de Castro lies in the southeast of Acre, on the Abunã River, which marks the border between Brazil and Bolivia at this point. On the map the town is a tidy grid of streets set close to the water, and the river's bends define the edge of the settlement on one side.
The town is named after José Plácido de Castro, who led the Acrean Revolution at the start of the twentieth century, the conflict that brought Acre into Brazil. Today the town is known locally for its border trade, with the Bolivian side just across the river.
A Plácido de Castro map poster brings out the meeting of a planned grid and a winding tropical river. The straight blocks stop at the bank, the water curves away in both directions, and the forest and pasture around them leave the town sitting clearly in the middle of the frame.
