Harbour village
The island's only settlement sits on the southwest coast, its houses and lanes packed around the port. It forms the single dense patch of detail on the map.

Psara Map Poster & Print
Psara lies in the northeastern Aegean, a short distance west of Chios, with the smaller islet of Antipsara beyond it. The island is bare, hilly and rocky, with an irregular outline of coves and points. Almost all of its life is gathered in one place, a harbour village in the southwest whose tight streets face the sea.
Psara's fame is out of proportion to its size. Its merchant fleet played a major role in the Greek War of Independence, and in 1824 Ottoman forces attacked the island and largely destroyed it. Dionysios Solomos mourned the event in a short, well-known epigram, and the island's name still carries weight in Greece today.
A Psara map poster presents the island as it is: a small shape in open water, with one dense cluster of streets and very little else. That economy is its strength. At larger sizes the coves become sharper and the village grid finer, and including Antipsara in the frame gives the composition a quiet second focus.

Antipsara
West of Psara lies Antipsara, a smaller and largely empty islet. With both in the frame, the poster becomes a pairing of two shapes separated by a strait.
Rocky coastline
Beyond the village the shore is a sequence of coves and headlands, few of them reached by roads, which gives the outline a broken, hand-drawn quality.

Waarom Psara
Een kaart met betekenis
Psara means a great deal to people with roots on the island and to readers of Greek history, for whom its name recalls seafaring and sacrifice. A map honours that without drama: one village, one coastline and the sea all around.
Put a family name, a year or a remembered line in the title or subtitle, and keep the coordinates or adjust them. Paper and Sand suit the island's bare stone, and Classic black & white, Noir and Blueprint are also available. The $9 HD download covers six sizes, from 30×40 cm to 24×36″.
