Romsey Map Poster & Print
Romsey is a market town in Hampshire, a short distance north-west of Southampton, and its map is shaped by water. The River Test runs down the western side of the town in several parallel channels, a braided pattern typical of chalk streams, with mill leats and side streams threading between fields. The historic centre sits just east of the river, compact and irregular.
At the heart of the town stands Romsey Abbey, a large Norman church whose footprint stands out clearly among the surrounding streets. The market place and the lanes around it follow a medieval layout, while newer housing spreads outward to the north and east. To the south lies the Broadlands estate, once the home of Lord Mountbatten, its parkland an open space beside the river.
