Ruda Śląska Map Poster & Print
Ruda Śląska lies in the heart of the Upper Silesian conurbation, between Katowice, Zabrze and Bytom. The city in its current form was created in 1959 by joining the towns of Ruda and Nowy Bytom, and neighbouring settlements were added later. On a map it has no single centre. Instead it is a cluster of separate districts, each with its own core, divided by railway lines, industrial sites and green areas.
Coal mining and heavy industry shaped the city for more than a century, and the map still shows it in the spoil heaps, rail sidings and former colliery sites between districts. Around the mines, companies built housing estates for their workers. Some survive as well-preserved examples of Silesian industrial architecture, such as the brick settlement of Ficinus in Wirek.
Several mines have since closed, and parks, woodland and new roads have filled some of the former industrial land. A Ruda Śląska map poster shows the whole city at once: its patchwork of districts, the tracks and highways that cross it and the green spaces in between. It is a portrait of a place shaped by the work that happened underground.

Workers' settlements
Historic housing estates built for mining families, including Ficinus in Wirek, appear as small, regular layouts of streets and courtyards among later development.
Rail and road network
Railway lines and major roads cross the city in several directions, including the regional east–west expressway. They draw long lines between the districts.

Waarom Ruda Śląska
Een kaart met betekenis
For Silesian families, Ruda Śląska is often tied to generations of work in the mines and to one particular district rather than the city as a whole. A map that shows every district together honours that history and still lets each person find their own street.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a district name, a family surname or a line in Polish or Silesian. Choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir suits the city's industrial past especially well.
