Saint-Priest lies on the eastern edge of the Lyon metropolitan area, on the flat ground of the Est lyonnais. Its map shows several layers: an old village core around the château, large housing estates from the post-war decades, and wide industrial and business zones. Major roads run through it all, linking Lyon with the airport and the routes towards the Alps.
The T2 tram connects the town with central Lyon, and Saint-Priest is home to major employers, including the headquarters of Renault Trucks. Green spaces appear in patches between the developments, and fields remain on the outer edges where the suburb meets the plain. Much of the town's shape comes from where these different uses meet.
