Settler grid
The streets around the station follow the regular block pattern typical of Hokkaido's planned towns, and it forms a neat, compact core in the middle of the valley.

Shimo-furano Map Poster & Print
Furano sits in a wide basin in central Hokkaido, and like many towns on the island it was laid out by settlers in a clear grid. On the map the streets form an ordered block around the station, while the land around it is cut into large regular rectangles of farmland. Rivers and irrigation channels run across the plain, and the mountains rise to the east and west.
The town calls itself the belly button of Hokkaido, as it lies near the island's geographic centre, and holds a summer festival to celebrate the fact. It's widely known for the lavender fields in the surrounding area and for skiing on the slopes to the west. Those slopes appear on the map as contour-like roads and runs climbing out of the valley.
A Shimo-furano map poster shows the contrast that defines this part of Japan: an orderly frontier grid set against open fields and steep, forested hills. The composition feels spacious, with the dense centre surrounded by farmland and rivers, which suits people who spend time here for the seasons, whether for the winter snow or the summer flowers.

Farmland rectangles
Beyond the town, fields are divided into large regular plots, and in the Paper or Sand style their outlines look like a faint grid on the ground.
Toward the slopes
To the west, roads rise out of the basin toward the ski area, where the terrain changes the linework from straight grid to winding climbs.

Waarom Shimo-furano
Een kaart met betekenis
Furano is a place people come back to, for snow in winter and fields in summer. A map of the grid and the valley is a clean reminder of a trip, a season working at a resort or a family home in Hokkaido.
You can write your own title, add a date or a name in the subtitle, and adjust the coordinates line. Blueprint suits the ordered grid, while Classic black & white keeps it simple.
