Shimo-tsuma Map Poster & Print
Shimo-tsuma lies in western Ibaraki Prefecture, on the broad, flat Kanto plain north of Tokyo. Two rivers shape its map. The Kinu River runs along one side and the smaller Kokai River along the other, both flowing roughly north to south. Between them the town centre forms a modest cluster of streets, and rice paddies and farm roads cover most of the surrounding land in a fine rectangular pattern.
Near the centre lies Sa-numa, a shallow lake with a park along its shore, which appears on the map as a quiet open shape among the streets. The Kanto Railway Joso Line crosses the town in a straight line. Outside Japan the name is best known from the novel and film Kamikaze Girls, whose original title, Shimotsuma Monogatari, refers to this town.
A Shimo-tsuma map poster shows the orderly geometry of rural Japan: rivers bending gently through a grid of fields, small residential clusters along the roads and a compact centre near the station. In the Paper or Sand style it takes on the calm of an old survey map, while Classic black & white brings out every field boundary.

Sa-numa lake
A small, shallow lake near the centre, edged by a park, forms a soft rounded shape that breaks up the regular street pattern around it.
Paddy field grid
Most of the surrounding land is divided into rectangular rice fields and straight farm roads. They give the outer parts of the map a fine, even texture.

Waarom Shimo-tsuma
Een kaart met betekenis
For people who grew up in western Ibaraki, or who know Shimo-tsuma through family, the map is a reminder of wide skies, rivers and fields. For fans of Kamikaze Girls, it is a quietly unusual way to keep the story's setting on the wall.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name or a date that matters, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD files in six sizes cost $9, and matte prints can be ordered with an optional wooden frame.
