Channel beach
The southern shore runs almost straight for several kilometres. On the map it forms one strong horizontal line that anchors the composition.

South Hayling Map Poster & Print
South Hayling is the main settlement on the southern half of Hayling Island, off the Hampshire coast between Portsmouth and Chichester. It is one of the more distinctive coastlines in southern England. A long, nearly straight beach runs along the south, and the tidal waters of Langstone Harbour and Chichester Harbour wrap around the island to the west and east.
The streets reflect a seaside resort that grew into a residential town. Roads run parallel to the shore behind the beach, and quieter residential streets and closes spread inland. Hayling Island is often named as a birthplace of windsurfing, and its beach and harbour mouths remain popular for sailing and board sports.
A South Hayling map poster is mostly about the edges. The clean line of the beach, the narrow harbour entrances and the island's shape against open water are what people remember. The street pattern fills in the land between them in fine detail.

Two harbours
Langstone Harbour to the west and Chichester Harbour to the east both have narrow entrances. They give the island its outline and fill the sides of the poster with water.
Coast-parallel streets
The main roads follow the beach behind it, with residential streets running inland. The result is a gently layered plan that follows the coast.
