Śródmieście Map Poster & Print
Śródmieście is Warsaw's central district, and its map is one of the most layered in Europe. The Vistula runs along its eastern edge beneath a long escarpment, and the Royal Route traces a line south from the Old Town through Krakowskie Przedmieście and Nowy Świat. West of it, wide post-war avenues such as Marszałkowska and Aleje Jerozolimskie form a broader, more monumental grid.
Most of the district was destroyed in 1944, and the Old Town that stands today is a careful post-war reconstruction, recognised by UNESCO. The Palace of Culture and Science rises from a vast square near the central station, a Soviet-era gift that still dominates the skyline. To the south, Łazienki park and palace add large green spaces to the plan.
