Railroad spine
The tracks run straight through the centre of Taylor, the line the town was built around and still the strongest single feature on the map.

De kaart
Taylor Map Poster & Print
Taylor lies in eastern Williamson County, northeast of Austin, on the rich blackland prairie that made the area a cotton centre. It was founded in the 1870s as a railroad town and named for a railroad official, and the map still shows that origin clearly: a downtown grid aligned with the tracks, with residential streets extending outward in regular blocks.
The town is famous far beyond Texas for Louie Mueller Barbecue, in business since 1949 and a regular stop for anyone serious about brisket. More recently, Taylor has become the site of a large Samsung semiconductor plant, bringing a new scale of industry to what had long been a farming and rail community.
A Taylor map poster captures that layered story in its lines. The railroad cuts diagonally through the older town, the grid of downtown streets holds steady around it, and beyond the edges the long, straight roads of the prairie reach out across open farmland toward neighbouring towns and the growing edge of the Austin region.

Downtown grid
A compact grid of historic blocks sits beside the railroad, aligned with it rather than with the compass, giving the centre a distinctive angle.
Prairie roads
Outside town, long straight roads cross the flat blackland farmland, dividing it into large open parcels that frame the city with generous space.
