Tejuçuoca Map Poster & Print
Tejuçuoca is a small municipality in the interior of Ceará, in the semi-arid backlands west of Fortaleza. The town is compact, and from above it appears as a short arrangement of streets around a central area, with houses lining the principal roads and thinning out into open land within a few blocks of the centre.
The surrounding landscape is caatinga, the dry scrubland of north-eastern Brazil, which turns grey-brown in the dry season and green after the rains. On the map this becomes wide, quiet space crossed by rural roads and seasonal streams. The lines of these streams, dry for much of the year, add faint branching shapes to the countryside.
Like many place names in Ceará, the name has Tupi roots. A Tejuçuoca map poster has a clear, graphic quality: a small cluster of lines in the middle, a few roads striking out across the sertão and a great deal of calm white space, a fair picture of how the town sits in its landscape.

Roads through the sertão
A few roads leave Tejuçuoca across open country, linking it with neighbouring towns and giving the composition long, straight or gently curving lines.
Seasonal watercourses
Streams that flow mainly in the rainy season cross the surrounding land, showing on the poster as faint, branching lines in the empty space.
