Thala Map Poster & Print
Thala lies in the Kasserine Governorate of west-central Tunisia, on the high ground of the Tunisian Dorsal, and is often described as one of the highest towns in the country, at around a thousand metres above sea level. From above, it is a compact settlement of low houses and short streets, with a few main roads leading out across dry, open hills.
The surrounding area is known for its marble, quarried in the hills near town and used in buildings across Tunisia. Thala also has a place in recent history: in the winter of 2010 and 2011 it was one of the interior towns where protests spread early during the Tunisian revolution. The landscape around it remains largely agricultural and sparsely built.
A Thala map poster is meaningful to people from Kasserine Governorate and to Tunisians abroad who keep a link with the interior. The design emphasises the tight core of streets against empty upland, a simple, graphic contrast that suits a monochrome print and leaves plenty of space for a personal title underneath.

Compact town core
Streets gather closely around the centre in short, irregular blocks, forming a dense pattern that contrasts sharply with the open land just beyond the edges.
Marble country
The hills around Thala are known for marble quarrying, an industry that has shaped the local economy and the tracks that lead out of town.
