Toyama Map Poster & Print
Toyama lies on a broad plain between Toyama Bay and the Tateyama Mountains, and on clear days the peaks form a white wall behind the city. The map itself is mostly flat and open: the Jinzū River runs north to the bay along the western side of the centre, and the old castle grounds sit near the middle, surrounded by a grid of streets.
North of the centre, the Fugan Canal runs toward the port area, with Kansui Park at its southern end. Tram lines loop through the downtown streets and extend toward the coast. A Toyama map poster traces these threads of water and rail across the plain, from the compact centre around the castle to the harbour and the fields beyond.
Toyama has long been known for its travelling medicine sellers, who carried remedies across Japan for centuries, and pharmaceuticals remain an important local industry. In 2006 the city opened one of Japan's first modern light rail lines, converted from an older railway, as part of a plan to keep its centre compact. The Hokuriku Shinkansen has linked it to Tokyo since 2015.
