Open-pit mines
The terraced pits near the town appear as concentric rings descending into the ground. This bold, almost abstract shape becomes the focal point of the map.

Uchaly Map Poster & Print
Uchaly is a town in the north-east of Bashkortostan, on the eastern side of the Southern Urals near the border with Chelyabinsk Oblast. It grew as a mining centre. For decades the extraction of copper and zinc ore has shaped both the town's economy and its surroundings, and it remains central to Uchaly's identity.
On a map, the residential area forms a compact grid of blocks and streets typical of a planned Soviet industrial town. Nearby, open-pit mines appear as deep oval shapes with concentric terraces, some of the most striking man-made forms you can find on any map, flanked by spoil heaps and industrial sites.
Around the town lies the forest, low ridges and lakes typical of the Trans-Ural foothills, Lake Uchaly among them. An Uchaly map poster puts the orderly streets, the stepped pits and the soft outlines of lakes and forest into one balanced composition, with the industrial and natural sides of the place side by side.

Planned blocks
The residential centre is laid out in regular blocks and wide streets. The clear Soviet-era plan contrasts with the irregular industrial land around it.
Lakes and forest
Lakes and forested foothills surround the town. Their smooth shorelines and open space soften the hard edges of the mining landscape.
