De kaart
Wangwu Map Poster & Print
Wangwu is a town on the island of Hainan, China's southernmost province, in the low-lying northwest of the island within the Danzhou area. The landscape here is gently rolling tropical country. On a map the town shows as a modest cluster of streets where local roads meet, surrounded by a wide patchwork of fields, plantations and small villages.
Northwestern Hainan is less mountainous than the island's centre. Its roads run fairly freely across the land, bending around ponds, streams and field boundaries rather than climbing through valleys. That produces an open, spread-out map, with the town as the densest point and the lighter pattern of rural tracks around it.
A Wangwu map poster is a quiet subject: a small town seen at the scale where the countryside matters as much as the streets. In black and white the main roads carry the composition, and the finer lines of lanes and paths fill the space between them. It suits someone with a personal link to the town, or anyone who likes maps of places off the usual route.

Rural road web
Beyond the town, a loose network of country roads and tracks links villages across the plain, giving the map a fine, even texture.
Water and fields
Ponds, streams and field edges interrupt the road pattern here and there, a reminder of the farmland that surrounds the town.
