Xiaolingwei Map Poster
Xiaolingwei is a subdistrict of Xuanwu District on the eastern side of Nanjing, where the city meets the slopes of Zijin Shan, the Purple Mountain. Nearby on the mountain lies Xiaoling, the mausoleum of Zhu Yuanzhang, founder of the Ming dynasty. From above, dense city blocks give way abruptly to forest, one of the clearest urban edges in Nanjing.
The name recalls the Ming guard garrison that once protected the mausoleum. Today the area is best known for its universities, including Nanjing University of Science and Technology, whose large, tree-lined campus occupies a significant part of the map. Main roads run east from the old city through the district toward the outer suburbs.
