River and dykes
The Xinyi River and its embankments run in long, straight lines across the plain. They are among the clearest features on the map and explain the city's name.

Xinyi Map Poster & Print
Xinyi is a county-level city under Xuzhou in the north of Jiangsu Province, on the flat plain that extends toward the border with Shandong. Its name is taken from the Xinyi River, a channel built to carry floodwater from the Yi River toward the sea, and water management shapes much of the surrounding map, with straight dykes and canals running across the fields.
The urban area is organised in broad, rectilinear blocks, with wide main roads and newer districts extending the grid outward. Railway lines cross and meet here, and the town grew in large part as a transport junction. To the south lies Luoma Lake, a large, shallow body of water whose soft outline contrasts with the ruled lines of the plain.
Within the city's territory lies Yaowan, an old town on the Grand Canal that once served as a stop for boats travelling between north and south China, with preserved streets and courtyards. A Xinyi map poster brings the city's grid, its waterways and the lake shore together in a clear, even composition that suits a restrained, modern interior.

Luoma Lake
South of the city, this broad lake introduces a large, irregular shape into an otherwise geometric landscape of roads, fields and drainage channels.
Yaowan and the canal
The old canal town of Yaowan sits on the Grand Canal within the city's territory, a small cluster of historic streets beside the water.
