Yachimata is a city in northern Chiba, set on the Shimōsa plateau between the Tokyo area and the Pacific coast. From above, a modest town centre gathers around the railway station, while the rest of the map is a patchwork of farmland, small woods and scattered houses linked by country roads.
The city is known across Japan for its peanuts. Chiba produces most of the country's domestic crop, and Yachimata is regarded as one of its main centres, with the light, well-drained soils of the plateau suited to the plant. Fields dominate the landscape well beyond the built-up area.
