De kaart

Zapotlanejo Map Poster & Print

Zapotlanejo lies east of Guadalajara in the Mexican state of Jalisco, on the highway towards Mexico City. Its centre follows the classic Spanish colonial pattern: a regular grid of streets around a main plaza and parish church. Newer districts spread outward along the highway and main roads, and farmland and low hills stretch beyond.

The town is widely known for its clothing industry. Hundreds of workshops and shops sell garments, and many visitors come from Guadalajara and beyond specifically to shop. Within the municipality stands the Puente de Calderón, the bridge where one of the major battles of Mexico's War of Independence took place in January 1811.

A Zapotlanejo map poster shows the town's orderly colonial core, the highway corridor that brings shoppers in, and the rural landscape around it. In black and white, the grid of the centre stands out sharply against the looser growth at the edges, a pattern common to many towns in the Mexican highlands.
