Valley streets
The main streets follow the valley floor in long, curving lines, with side streets branching off only where the ground allows, giving the town an elongated outline.

Zhongduo Map Poster & Print
Zhongduo is the seat of Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, in the far southeast of Chongqing. The town sits in the Wuling mountain region, where flat ground is scarce, so the built-up area stretches along valley floors and wraps around the base of steep slopes. On a map, the streets form long, narrow bands rather than a compact grid.
Youyang is home to large Tujia and Miao communities, and the county is known for its mountain scenery and cultural traditions. Roads and a railway reach the town through the hills, often by tunnel and bridge, which appear on the map as straight lines cutting through otherwise curving terrain. Newer districts climb onto terraces where the slopes allow.
A Zhongduo map poster turns this constrained geography into a striking shape: streets that bend with the valleys and stop abruptly where the mountains begin. Printed in black and white, the empty space around the town is as important as the streets themselves, showing just how tightly the landscape holds the town.

Mountain edges
Development stops sharply at the foot of the surrounding slopes, leaving a clear boundary between dense streets and the open, blank terrain of the mountains.
Tunnels and bridges
Transport routes reaching the town cross valleys on bridges and pass through hills, drawing straight connections across a map otherwise shaped by curves.

Waarom Zhongduo
Een kaart met betekenis
Zhongduo is a place people often leave for work in larger cities, and a map of the home valley keeps it close. The unusual, stretched outline also makes it a distinctive piece of wall art for anyone who loves mountain towns.
