Abadeh stands on the high central plateau in the north of Fars province, at roughly two thousand metres. It lies on the main road between Shiraz and Isfahan, and on a map that route runs past the town as a long, confident line. The streets spread across flat ground, with mountains visible at a distance rather than pressing in.
The town has long been known for its carved woodwork, a craft associated with Abadeh across Iran. Traditional water systems and garden plots once shaped its edges, and on a map the transition from dense streets to open plain is still clear. The climate here is cooler than in much of southern Iran, thanks to the altitude.
