Akanda lies just north of Libreville, on the peninsula between the Gabon Estuary and the Atlantic. It has grown quickly as the capital has spread outward, and much of its street network is recent. From above, new residential quarters reach toward a coastline that breaks up into creeks, inlets and mangrove channels.
An Akanda map poster captures a place still being filled in. Main roads carry traffic between the commune and central Libreville, while side streets branch into newer neighbourhoods at varied angles.
