Al Baţţālīyah is one of the towns of the Al-Ahsa oasis in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, a short drive from Hofuf. From above, the town is defined by what surrounds it. Its built-up core gives way almost immediately to date palm groves, which divide the land into small, closely packed parcels and give the map a fine, textured grain.
Al-Ahsa is among the largest oases in the world and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site for its long history of palm cultivation and water management.
