Al Fūlah lies in the Kordofan region of central Sudan, on flat, semi-arid land between the savanna to the south and the drier north. It serves as an administrative centre for the surrounding area. From above, the town appears as a spread of low-rise blocks and walled compounds, laid out loosely across the plain.
The landscape around it is shaped by seasonal rain. Dry watercourses that fill during the wet season cross the area and appear on the map as faint, winding lines, while tracks radiate from the town toward villages and farms in the surrounding countryside.
