Alcañiz is the main town of the Bajo Aragón region in the province of Teruel, Spain. It stands beside the Guadalope River, which makes a pronounced bend around the old town. On a map, the historic centre fills the inside of this loop as a dense mesh of narrow, irregular streets, while newer districts spread along the roads leading out across the surrounding plain.
Above the town rises the Pui Pinos hill, topped by the castle of the Order of Calatrava, which now houses a parador. Below it, the Plaza de España holds the Gothic Lonja and the town hall, a notable civic group. The steep slopes of the hill appear on the map as an empty space among the streets.
Beyond its history, Alcañiz is widely known for Motorland Aragón, a racing circuit outside town that has hosted international motorcycle races.
