Arese is a comune in the metropolitan area of Milan, northwest of the city in the flat Lombard plain. On a map it looks like a small old centre surrounded by residential neighbourhoods. Motorways and major roads run along its edges, and there are pockets of green space and farmland between Arese and its neighbours.
The biggest shape on the map of Arese is the former Alfa Romeo factory, which once covered a very large area on the edge of town. Part of the site is now the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum. Another large part has become a big shopping centre. The rest is still being redeveloped.
